Representatives for McStay did not immediately return PEOPLE's request for comment. McStay's rise to fame began with the role of Sergeant Perryman on the ITV detective seriesNo Hiding Place, on which he appeared in over 80 episodes. He also starred in two episodes of BBC'sDoctor Who, playing the role of Derek Moberley. Despite only appearing for a brief time, McStay shared his appreciation for the beloved show's fans during a May 2024 interview on theDoctor Who: Toby Hadoke's Time Travelspodcast. "The sort of fans that you get on a show likeDoctor Whoare your friends. They want to like you, they want to like the show. It's a great feeling," he said at the time.
