In an article forELLE's 2025 Summer Issue, published online on May 27, Lohan, 38, was interviewed bySaturday Night LivestarChloe Finemanabout her life and career. Fineman, 36, asked Lohan about reprising her role as Anna in 2003'sFreaky Fridayinthis August'sFreakier Friday. "I'm excited. It feels surreal. I've never thought I would do a movie where there would be a sequel," Lohan said aboutthe return. "It's something you don't really think about. And then when you get to do it, and bring a character that you knew so well back to life, in a sense, it's exciting. There's a comfort with it that you don't find in a new character. It's evolved. What are they like now? How can we shoot it? So it felt really special, and so did doing my first feature back with Disney again after not doing features for such a long time. It's a really nice thing." But there was one thing about returning to the role that was a little stressful for Lohan: singing. In the original movie, Anna plays in a band called Pink Slip. Lohan also sang the film's main song, "Ultimate," which remains a 2000s pop-rock classic. Fineman asked Lohan about singing again for the sequel. She explained, "It was good. Well, it was kind of nerve-racking at first, because I'm not singing as me." "When I was doing [Freaky Friday], I was also recording an album, so it was part of my life at the time," she said. She released her debut album,Speak, in 2004. "In this movie, I was singing it as [my character] Anna, whereas before felt more like Lindsay singing," the actress added. Lohan also sang extensively in 2004 Disney filmConfessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, including on the film's single "Drama Queen (That Girl)." She also sang in 2004'sMean Girls(in the iconic "Jingle Bell Rock" scene) and 2006'sA Prairie Home Companion. In the originalFreaky Friday, Lohan's Anna is at odds with her mom (Jamie Lee Curtis' Tess) in the days before Tess marries her boyfriend. Overnight, the pair switch bodies to learn about the struggles the other is dealing with. In the sequel, Anna is also gearing up for a wedding when she and Tess swap with the younger generation. John Nacion/Getty Lohan told Fineman that it felt like coming home when she "got to the lot" for filming. "It felt really special, because I was 10 [when I auditioned forThe Parent Trap]; now I'm 38," she said. "And to be back there at this time and have a full life and be able to share it with my husband and my son, it definitely feels unique in a lot of ways, and it's nice." "It felt easy and fun, and fresh at the same time," she said of the movie, adding thatFreakier Fridayis "a feel-good movie." Speaking to PEOPLE in August 2024, Curtis, 66, said of the movie's music, "Pink Slip is back, let's put it that way." Christina Vidal and Haley Hudson, who played the band's other members, are also back for the sequel. Lohan added, "When we were [filming the songs, audience members] were like, 'Encore!' And we were like, 'We only have one song, we didn't think this through!' But there are more songs in this movie." She added that one of the new songs "tugs on your heartstrings." "It will be a very popular song," Curtis said. "It'll be the song of the summer next summer. I guarantee it. And I'm an old lady and so you should trust me on this." Lohan added that she was touched seeing how much fans love Pink Slip. "Just seeing the reaction that people had to it, was so heartwarming," she said. "Like I almost wanted to cry because I didn't realize how Pink Slip really became so huge."
