In the first two weeks since its theatrical release, the doc has broken a 20-year record as the only movie to hit No. 1 at the U.S. box office while playing in fewer than 1,000 theaters. Of course, that feat largely has to do with the curiosity surrounding Holmes’ personal life before she officially surrendered to federal prison in 2023. But it might also have to do with the fact that folks think Nathan Fielder is…kinda hot?

I bet you didn’t know Nathan was fully married before his show, Nathan for You , took off in the 2010s. Before they tied the knot, Nathan met Canadian children’s librarian Sarah Ziolkowska at his friend’s comedy show in Halifax. For the most part, their relationship stayed out of the spotlight. So much so that one of their only documented public outings was at Comedy Central’s James Franco roast in August 2013. However, their marriage grew complicated as he worked on the second season of Nathan for You in 2014 .
During a 2022 interview with Vulture , he admitted everything “suddenly felt uncertain” as he navigated the split. “I was like, Wow, I’m so bad at life, ” he said, adding that he had “a very jarring experience” losing control of his emotions during a big meeting.
In a 2017 interview with Rolling Stone , he apparently “refused” to go into detail about the split, saying, “Any breakup is hard. It was tough.”
He also revealed he had moved on with a mystery woman after his split from Sarah, telling the outlet, “I’m dating someone right now. I’m not going to talk more about it.”
Nearly a decade after he and Sarah finalized their divorce, Nathan was reportedly linked to Amber Schaefer, a writer and director who’s helmed shorts for Funny or Die , College Humor , and Saturday Night Live.
They sparked romance rumors at GQ ’s Men of the Year event in November 2022, where she allegedly attended as his plus-one. They were also photographed with comedian Kate Berlant for the mag’s official party recap . Around the same time of their sighting, sources told The Gawker that they had “been a rumored item for a while.”
Things remained low-key—as they tend to in Nathan’s dating life—until they posed for a photo together at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party in March 2024.
However, You Can See Everything shows Nathan mentioning he was “going through a breakup” in an email he sent to Elizabeth Holmes while she was in prison. It’s unclear whether he was talking about Amber, as neither of them ever publicly confirmed a romantic connection.
The comedian-turned-filmmaker was most recently linked to author Emma Cline earlier this year. Romance rumors first sparked at Cultured magazine’s CULT100 Gala at the Guggenheim Museum in New York on April 30. According to culture writer Delia Cai’s Deez Links Substack , “Novelist Emma Cline appeared to have brought Nathan Fielder as her date to Cultured’s ‘Cult100’ Gala.”
Neither Nathan nor Emma weighed in on the rumors, but Deuxmoi seemingly confirmed that the pair was “allegedly dating” during an Instagram Q&A.
And, after all that, Deux came through with a real-time update, confirming that Nathan is single as of October 28.
“This just in. They broke up. He’s single,” they wrote in a comment under their initial report .
